Present Past Future

Bonnie Baxter

Thirteen years after the exhibition Rewind (2005), the MAC LAU and artist Bonnie Baxter embarked on a discussion for a new exhibit project. Without a doubt one of the most influential artists in the Laurentians, Bonnie Baxter will be unveiling her latest creation, a polymorphic exhibition with narratives that slip between biography, fabrication and auto-fiction, at the MAC LAU.

Originally hailing from the United States and now a proud resident of Val-David, Bonnie Baxter is a celebrated artist with long-standing connections in her milieu. She’s one of the founding members of the Atelier du Scarabée, where she was also director, and her talents in printmaking and etching have led to her collaboration with artists such as Jean-Paul Riopelle (1985-1993), whose major works she printed. A professor at Concordia University, her extensive body of work has garnered international attention and acclaim on stages around the world, including Paris, New York, Toronto and Montréal. A believer in creating layers of content to signify layers of meaning, the printmaker works with both traditional and new media techniques.

The exhibition is presented at two sites : the MACLAU (101 Curé-Labelle) and in an abandonned lawyer's office (330 Saint-Georges).
