Natural Stories

Group exhibition

Artists: Maryse Goudreau, Caroline Monnet, Celia Perrin Sidarous, Joseph Tisiga, Sally Tisiga and the duo Sarah Wendt + Pascal Dufaux.

Curator: Aseman Sabet

Natural Stories is the second part of a cycle of three carte blanche exhibitions that the curator has developed around the intersecting representations of nature and history. In this perspective, the project follows the exhibition Through the Forest that was first presented at MAC LAU in the fall of 2018.

Prompted by a reflection on the narrative and conceptual extensions of natural history, the exhibition intends to question how our ways of thinking and imaging nature act as reflections of our cultural, community, social and sensory identities. In other words, how do our representations of nature – of its components, its condition and its evolutionary logic – inform history, both the established one and its counter-narratives? And how, in return, do our plural writings and expressions of history, that of nature as much as that of our world – real or imagined, individual or collective – modulate our gaze and our actions on ecosystems, insofar as they are increasingly affected by humans?
