Mariette Rousseau-Vermette : Matière première

Mariette Rousseau-Vermette

[Reopening on June 3rd, 2021.]

For more than a year, the Musée d'art contemporain des Laurentides has devoted its first room to exhibiting the process of transforming its collection. Until very recently, the MAC LAU presented the genealogy of its collection through certain artefacts that illustrate the founding episodes of its institution and its collection.

In the wake of the review of its collection management policy, the Museum recently initiated the process of acquiring a large batch of wool that belonged to the Laurentian artist Mariette Rousseau-Vermette (1926 - 2006), resident of Sainte-Adèle until the end of her life. This acquisition fits as a case study aimed at developing an angle of the collection that allows the conservation of significant artefacts related to the production of works in contemporary art.

The batch of wool offered by her son, Marc Vermette, is indicative of the approach of Mariette Rousseau-Vermette, an artist of capital importance in the field of Quebec and Canadian arts. It allows the Museum to archive the artist's raw material.

Before including the batch of wool in its collection, the Museum carried out, in its own exhibition room, a preventive conservation treatment aimed at securing the organic matter against any risk of contamination. Find out more
